Thanksgiving week

Teacher are designers all the time they have to come up with ideas and design how their lesson plans and their days are going to go. They come up with steps and examples and then present and show students how to do the work. When there is trouble with the plan or not quiet understood by the students the teacher has to design and come up with other steps and other ways of doing the work so that it will try to help the student understand because not all students think and learn the same way.
As a Spanish teacher I would use Stop Motion software in my classroom. The Stop Motion is a software where designers create their own animated movies and time lapse recordings. I could give me students a project in which they had to collect information over a certain topic for example the Mexican Independence war. After finding all the information on the revolution they will make a mini movie with details about how the war started and ended and important factors and battles fought during the war, Then they could record their voices and talk for the people in the movies but talking Spanish only. My students would have fun with the project and be learning a little about a Spanish speaking country and practice their Spanish as well.
Digital story telling where students come up with an idea for a story, they use a camera and film it and then edit it on a computer. This is a great way for students to collaborate and work together on a project while at the same time being creative and critical thinkers. Everybody has a part which means everybody is working the director, actor, videographer, and editor therefore everyone has to think for their part in the story and at the end bring it all together and present it. I could defiantly use this in my classroom I would split my students into groups and tell them to make  a story in Spanish and assign each student a different role in their groups.
Mathematics is an abstract subject but with the help of a couple of tools it can become real and easier to students. With the help of hand-held graphing calculators, and the software named Tinker Plots math can be more real and easier to students. By using the hand-held graphing calculators students will better understand math contextually, numerically, graphically, and symbolically  and distinguishing the important features of the functioning relationships of math will be easier and understood better. Tinker-Plots is a data visualization software for grades 4-8 that enables students to see different patterns and clusters in statistical data. By using this students learn to reason with data. With data points graphed, students group them into clusters, sort them by amount or sequence, and display them in a seemingly infinite variety of formats making easier to see what the students are actually doing.
In my opinion I think it really comes down to the person not everyone is the same some people could learn from just watching TV instruction buy me myself I don't think I could learn like that. I have to actually do the work and see what I"m doing to understand it. For example if I had a class class where the teacher taught us through the tv I would have a difficult time trying to learn the material I wouldn't be able to comprehend it and I would probably not do so well in that class. But thats just me so in reaily like i said it really comes down to the person whatching the instruction and whether or not they is a visual learners or not.

week 11

The 3 simulations that I would use to implie in my classroom are Multimodal Principle, Practice Principle, and Discovering Principle. Multimodal Principle is where-meaing and knowledge are built through various modalities such as images, texts, symbols, interactions, abstract, design, and sound, not just words. This is very helpful because not every student learns the same some are hands on and this is where interactions would help while some are visual so images texts symbols and designs would help them which is why I think the multimodal principle is a good one. Practice Principle is basically what it says learners get lots and lots of practice on the context to where its not boring any more. This principle I think applies to everything not just in the classroom if you practice practice and practice at something eventually your going to get better. Same thing in the classroom and u read read read or write write write eventually reading and writing will get easier and after time and effort it will be easy and not boring anymore. Discovering Principle is where-overt telling is kept to a well thought out minimum allowing ample opportunity for the learner to experiment and make discoveries. This principle really allows students to think, teachers give them a little bit of info so they can get started on the assignment and then the student has to go and research and look up information to discover a solution.
Its a little tough to think of a simulator that I could use for my Spanish class the best I could think of is using  something like the urban simulation but just have everything in Spanish and in a Spanish speaking country. As for my math class I think lab simulations would be the best use because I would use it to find the angles of buildings. I would set up angles on the simulators and then let them find out the equation to that angel by reverse working the problem.
In conclusion I think the three principles I chose plus the rest of the principles are great tools to use in the classroom. They are great ways for students to learn while not sticking to the same oh same in classes. Plus the stimulations combined with the pinciples well make teaching funner and more effective because the studens will keep intreged as long as learn is fun and interesting.

Week 7

For the best writing activities in my classroom that I would make use of is probably the, the concept maps it is  very helpful when creating ideas and planning a paper. Concept mapping is good for developing  research topics, organizing presentations, or writing bibliographies and with the help of semantic networks software's concept mapping becomes even easier and more effective. The semantic networks help plan and analyze tools that could help students generate and organize ideas for planning papers or speeches. Which is perfect for when I ask my students to do a paper about the history of a Spanish speaking country or when I ask them to give me a speech over Don Quixote. With these programs at the palm of my students hands, writing research papers, speeches, bibliographies, and any assignments that I give them  shouldn't be a problem for them.

It is very easy to get off track when using power points one can start messing with all the adjustments to the power point and forget completely about the main idea. Don't get me wrong power points are very useful and very fun to work with but they can all be very distracting, so it's important that you keep to some rules when doing them. For when I become a teacher I will have certain rules that would keep so that my students don't get distracted when I'm doing a power point. First I will use the same font for all they slides, and make sure that the slides are readable and not to bright. Then I will have no more then three slide transitions for presentation or stick to one type of transition through it all . Have four to five different slide templates per two slides this way I don't have to much going on that could cause a distraction to my students. Last i would not have to many slides because if there is to many most students will get bored and dose off after awhile. With these "potential pitfalls" out of the way and with these rules listed distractions in my class when doing a power point shouldn't be a problem. Therefore: yes I believe I could follow the potential pitfalls from the text.

Using the concept mapping and power point will be very helpful and useful to me in my classroom and for the the papers I will assign my students. My students will have the concept maps to prepare and organize the assignments and then when they are ready they can present it to the class using power point.

Week 6 PDA's

Personal data assistants or PDA or hanheld  or small computers that fit in the palm of your hand. They have organization functions as, calendars, task, and memo tools, and have features like digital cameras, audio recording, USB ports, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). These devices could be very useful in classrooms because it can store information, keep you up to date with due dates on assignments, and could help with sharing information with other classmates for group projects. It has wireless internet access, Bluetooth, and radio wave technology that can be used. And after gathering information students could use Bluetooth to beam applications and files from one handheld to another.

We use online surveys to get an idea of how people think and feel about a certain topic. Online surveys are used to collect data about your students by giving them a survey on the computer you are asking them questions about a certain topic and how people feel about it, while also at the same time learning more about your students. This way you can be better prepare to give lectures that would best suet your classroom. In my opinion its best to make a survey that doesn't have long questions and and leading questions. If you have to long of questions your participant might not want to read it all or have the time to finish it and if your leading questions you might not get the answer that your really looking for.

The PDA's and the surveys are very helpful technologies for the class room one will help you gather up information about your classroom and the other will help you keep the information stored and then share it with the rest of the classroom. I can see myself using these technologies in my class room especially the surveys so that I can get a better understanding of my students never the less though both these gadgets are great for the classroom.

Excel Week 4

Spreadsheet is and interesting program but I don't think I would use it much in my class. I think I would rather much use the Inspiration software to get my my graphs and maps. Don't get me wrong it is a great way to keep organized, and keep track of your students grades with the assignments and grades made on the assignment. While also helping you keep  track of what you sell and how much, in the case  of having a fund raiser. You could use the columns to name the items and its prices, then use the  rows to write down the name of the purchaser and how items he bought. So it could be a useful program but I really don't think I would use it much other then what I mention here.

We use spreadsheets in our class room to keep organized and keep records of our students grades example the grade book. We simply write in the assignment in the cells beginning the columns, then in the first cells beginning the rows we put the students name and then whatever grade they make for whatever assignment we put in the grade in the row and column that it goes in. This is a huge advantage over a calculator because you can easily add up the average with just typing in a formula instead of having to go and punch in the grades into the calculator and coming up the with average. Plus if you want to see your students progress over each six weeks you could make a graph over it and see if the student has improved or not improved.

The three primary functions of a spreadsheet is to store, calculate, and present information. This pretty much covers what a spreadsheat does. By storing you keep records of assingments and keep them organized, by calculating you find the average out of your students grades or for whatever other purpose you want to use it, and by presenting it you use the graphs to present the work of whatever it is you want to present.

Inspiration

Wow the inspiration program is incredible,I was amazed at all you can do on it, and how it will be very helpful in the classroom. The programs comes with diagrams, maps, outlines, and presentation manager its really a handing program to have around. I was really amazed on how you could brainstorms ideas on the diagram and as your doing that add ideas to your main idea and add extra ideas to your ideas, while at the same time as your doing all the it's making an outline for you on its own. Then after you are done with everything on your diagram you could switch all your info over to the presentation manager and present it to the class.

Being a Spanish teacher in the future I'm probably going to have my students doing a lot of presentations in Spanish so my students would defiantly be using the Microsoft Power Point and Inspiration Presentation Manager to present the assignments. They could use the maps or the diagrams on the Inspiration site to help the brain storm and organize papers and presentations for the assignments from my class. For the papers of course Microsoft Word would be the best way for the students to turn in their written assignments to me. I  also could have a contest to see who writes the best paper and the winner would be able to  publish their writings on Kidscripe. "Recent research has shown that student-to-student feedback may be more effective in helping students improve in their writing than the "expert" feedback they may receive from teachers". Therefore; the best way for students to help themselves during writing would probably be Blog. Students could then post their papers up on blog and fellow classmates could comment on the post and give ideas and opinions about the paper. They could also use SWoRD a web based reciprocal peer review system to get feed back over their work. This way it could take a burden off my hands being as I won't always have the time to give feed back to all my students over their work. As a teacher sometimes we are going to get topics we will not know as well as others but you may find out that as you go through and continue to teach on the topic you become aware that the more and more you teach it the better and more informed of the topic you become. As was the situation with me when I was teaching a friend of mine a workout routine that I had barely stated the week before I didn't really know much about it at the beginning but as I went on continuing the workout and teaching him as well. I became more aware of what I was doing while also at the same time  learn more about it and was better prepare to teach it next time.

It seems technology is helping a lot these days not only in the classrooms but in the world itself, I'm excited to start using some of these programs in my curriculum, and apply them to my everyday life as well. I believe technology will make my teaching career a little easier and it will also provide me with a lot of fun ways to get my lecture out to the students.

Blogs

Well to begin with I am still getting use to working a blog. I see it kind of as another Myspace or Facebook but used for more education purposes then how facebook and myspace is used. I think it's a useful way to get in touch with students and teachers in case the student wasn't able to make it to class or, a way for the student to check up on what he or she might of missed in class. It could help a student get a hold of the teacher  in case there was a question about the assignment or if not the teacher a fellow classmate.. "Blogs can provide the means to connect and communicate with others sharing the same interests" If a student is interested in a subject they could get on blog and find others that are interested in that same subject.  I think blog is great use in the classroom it's an "instructional tool" that benefits both the students and the teachers. Its a great way for teachers to post up the assignments, and keep in touch with students that didn't make it class. While also its a good way for students who are usually shy inside the classroom, to be able to communicate with the rest of the class without being shy about it. It a great way to post up videos and music clips, and also it would allow classmates to help out one other, share information, respond, and discuss about what was done in class.

Blog would most defiantly be a big help in my curriculum I could post up assignments and give my students work that would have to apply some of the concepts that they learned in class in order to do the assignment. This would help them communicate more for when I gave them group assignments, and they could post out ideas about what they think would be good way to start off a group project when assigned that. I would defiantly take advantage of the (KidLink, the International Education and Resource Network, (iEARN)).This program would help me out a lot especially in my Spanish class I could use the program to get my students to interact with kids for Spanish speaking countries this way they could practice there Spanish, meet new friends, and learn about different cultures and traditions
